The Ultimate Guide to Navigating New York, an eBook by Sophie Colgan, is officially live and available for download. Designed to support both new arrivals and Irish who have already made NYC home, this comprehensive guide provides invaluable insights into everything from securing visas and finding accommodation to financial planning, job hunting, and building a network.
The eBook, which went live on Sophie’s website yesterday, has already seen an incredible response, with interest and downloads picking up quickly. The Ultimate Guide to Navigating New York is the product of months of research and dedication, drawing on Sophie’s own experiences as well as contributions from members of the Irish community in New York.
A Guide Built by the Irish for the Irish
Sophie Colgan, a well-known advocate for the Irish in New York, moved to the city in 2014 on a J-1 Graduate visa. In 2015, she proudly represented New York in the Rose of Tralee International Festival. Over the years, she has remained deeply committed to supporting, promoting, and connecting Irish individuals in the city. "This guide is truly a labor of love. When I first arrived in New York, I had to figure things out on my own. Now, I want to make that process easier for others," says Sophie. "Whether you're planning your move or have been here for years, I hope this resource helps you find success and community in NYC." The guide also includes powerful open letters from Irish individuals who have built their lives in New York, offering personal insights and advice to those following in their footsteps. Special thanks goes to Irish contributors, including Gemma Allen, Trisha Hogan, Amie Wiley, Vivienne Sayers O’Callaghan, Rhiannon Gilvarry, Enya O’Connor, and Jonathan Glynn.
Expertly Edited and Designed
The eBook was expertly edited by Liam Grainger, a First-Class Honors Business Information Systems graduate from University College Cork and member of the US Embassy Dublin’s Young Leader’s Council. Liam is currently based in New York on a J-1 Trainee Visa and works with Sprintax. His expertise in graphic design and data visualization played a key role in shaping this resource into a polished and user-friendly guide. "Sophie’s passion for helping others settle into New York is truly inspiring. It was an honor to collaborate on this project and contribute to something that will make a real impact for so many," says Liam.
